Deviating from a normal central network installation, a network client installation can be added to a central network installation. This reduces the network load and can prevent problems that arise due to excessive network load and also improve performance.

Setting up a network client installation

The basis for a network client installation is an already installed standard network version of moveIT ISS+.

Anti-Virus and Firewall Exceptions

If an antivirus program is active (local computer, terminal server, database server and network clients), the antivirus exceptions must be set correctly!

Windows User Account Control

If UAC (User Account Control) is activated on the client and setup functions are carried out via the network drive, it can result in connected network drives not being selectable or visible during the moveIT ISS+ installation processes, even though they are correctly connected and present.

You can work around this problem as follows:

Copy the file UAC_Admin_Netzlaufwerk.reg (can be found under ClientToolsReg\) to the local computer and add it to the registry with a double click. This activates in Windows that network drives are also available when you start a program with "Run as administrator". To activate this function, you must RESTART your computer! Otherwise, the client setup (installation, Windows components, etc.) cannot be carried out.

If all Windows components are already available on the client, no client setup will be carried out.

Permissions on the network drive

You absolutely have to leave SYSTEM and administrators!! It is essential that users have full access to this folder, subfolders and files. You can also use a domain group or the entry 'Everyone' here. In any case, remove the entry 'Creator/Owner'!

Log in as a user with administrator rights.

To create a directory and enter the permissions, switch to Windows Explorer.

You create a directory in which you want to install moveIT ISS+. For example, you create a new folder on the C:\ drive and name it "moveIT_ISS_NWC".

Now mark the new folder C:\ISS and click [right mouse button] [Properties] [Security tab] and here on the [Advanced] button.

In this new window, uncheck "Replace all permission inputs for child objects with inheritable permission entries from this object." if this is checked.

Now remove unnecessary entries and enter the people and/or groups who should work with moveIT ISS+.

Once this has been done, confirm the settings with [Apply]. Now the setup can be started.

If there is a problem with permissions, you can have the settings "re-inherited" by ticking "All permissions for subordinate objects..." in this window and then re-inheriting them. However, depending on the number of files, this can take a little longer because the permissions are rewritten for EVERY file. Therefore this should be done BEFORE setup.

You switch to Windows Explorer.

The installation file Release_54.xx.xx.exe is located under moveIT/Data/Updates.

Double-click this file to start the installation.

In the following window, select the desired installation language and confirm your entry with [OK].

In the "Welcome" window that follows, you will find information about the installation.

Click on the [Next] button to continue the installation.

The “Setup” item should now be set in the “Installation Type” window.

Click on the [Next] button to continue the installation.

The “Network Client” item must be selected in the “Setup Settings” window. For "Iss.exe of the server", select the path to the Iss.exe of the central network installation. With "Local Path" you can specify the desired LOCAL storage path.

[Next] will continue the update.

Please note that all users who are to work with moveIT ISS+ need full access (at file level) to the folder e.g.: C:\moveIT_ISS\ and all files.

Create a local folder

You first create the local folder e.g.: C:\moveIT_ISS and assign the permissions and only AFTER do the network client setup. This means you don't have to reassign permissions AFTER setup.

Once the update has been installed, you can click on the [Finish] button.

Start moveIT ISS+ as a network client

Immediately after installation you should start the network client via C:\moveIT_ISS_NWC\ISS.exe in order to bring the network client up to the program status of the server installation.

All program updates are automatically imported one after the other directly at start and then the program starts.

Install updates

To install program updates via Live Update, start the ISS.exe directly from the UNC path/network drive (central start). Master data updates can also be imported directly into the network client via LiveUpdate.

Updating a Network Client Version

When the central network environment is updated, the corresponding update files are automatically stored in the moveIT_ISS directory.

If the network client environment is started after an update, the update of the central environment is automatically recognized and started. No user intervention is necessary!

Now you wait until the updates have been completely installed and then the login mask opens. You can now start the program again as usual.
